Benefits of OMSA Membership
OMSA Members can take advantage of the following member-only services:
Conferences/Committee Meetings: The association meets multiple times a year for either conferences and committee meetings. The conferences tend to be more big-picture items with guest speakers, where-as the committee meetings are more technical and issue specific in nature. Both events are member-only and allow the membership to come together and discuss the issues that affect them. There is no cost for OMSA members to attend the conferences and meetings; however, there is a nominal fee to attend the luncheon or cocktail reception portion.
Forums/Summits: OMSA also convenes issue-specific meetings on pending regulations, laws, or member-driven hot-topics. There are usually CLE, CPE or Continuing Insurance Credits offered at these events.
Committees: OMSA has several active committees focused on safety, security, human resources, vessel operations, and offshore wind. This is where members shape the positions that OMSA will take on critical issues.
News Updates: Through monthly electronic newsletters, weekly Friday Fast Fact emails, and individual email alerts, OMSA reports on pending laws, regulations and other news that may impact the industry. OMSA members are also given the opportunity to sponsor portions of the newsletter and Friday Fast Facts.
Social Events: Each year, OMSA holds several events designed to give members a chance to enjoy each other's company, build relationships, and reinforce the culture that has made OMSA so effective. Events include golf tournaments, a fishing rodeo, meeting receptions, lunch and learns, and a clay shoot.
Advocacy: OMSA represents its members with Congress, U.S. Coast Guard, Federal Agencies, State Governments and International Bodies.

OMSA Vessel Security Program: OMSA has partnered with The Response Group to develop a series of Coast Guard-approved and internationally compliant vessel security plans. OMSA also provides annual drills, audit assistance and crew security training to meet the regulatory requirements of the security plans.
OMSA Safety Training Program: OMSA offers a safety training program for company vessel crewmembers. In 2005, the OMSA program was accepted as meeting the requirements of the SafeGulf program, an offshore operator safety orientation program which is now being required by many oil and gas production companies. The program focuses on maritime-related safety and was developed through the expertise of OMSA's Safety Committee. Member companies have the option of using in-house training or sending crewmembers to an accredited training institution.
Vessel General Permit (VGP) Manual: OMSA offers a "best practices" manual for use by vessel operators to comply with the 2008 EPA requirements for management and reporting of discharges incidental to the normal operations of commercial vessels under the Vessel General Permit program. This manual is very helpful in ensuring compliance with this permit.
Staff Assistance: The OMSA staff are here to assist you with your needs, including asking regulators questions on your behalf and assistance with or review of appeals of incorrect USCG decisions.
